Presenting ARTYA AWARD Winning Artist
“What is my art? As the founder of the Sea Turtle Conservancy organization 7 Quillas of San Juan, we protect sea turtles and its habitat, but how do we put together this deed and art?
Through “live art”, we have done for three years in a row the biggest human leatherback turtle of the world, right at the beach in the capital city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. We began forming the leatherback turtle with 150 volunteers in 2017, and in 2019 with over 500 volunteers. The biggest leatherback ever made in the world.
The marine turtles, all endangered species, are key indicators of the health of our oceans, they represent longevity, patience, teamwork, equilibrium, loyalty and Gods perfection represented through Nature.
My live art includes volunteers of all ages, social, economic, and cultural areas. For a couple of hours humans transform into the biggest marine turtle of the world. ‘Respondiendo al llamado del mar a salvarlo’. “
