Arttour International Magazine presents
Artist of the Week
Barbara Tyler Ahlfield, American painter and illustrator, she delivers the essence of pure glamour; the award-winning painter has gifted the world with a broad spectrum of true to life portraits in monochrome, each one reflecting a delicate blend of dramatic, classical, evocative, realistic, and emotionally layered strokes. The high realism depicted in her work stems from her sketching and re-sketching of a subject orchestrated with details, textured layers, pigmentation, forms, models, props, live music, and wine. As of recently, her portfolio has expanded to the use of new elemental subjects, tones, and scenes.
What are you currently focusing on?
“I am currently focusing on combining themes of nature with portraiture. “
Have you experienced any significant changes in your art this year?
“During the past twelve months, I have developed a new direction by incorporating elements in my painting that I never used in the past- flowers, clouds, the sea, food, weather elements, and aquatic creatures.”
Where are you from, and how has it influenced your art?
“I am from upstate New York State- Rochester- USA! I was brought up in a strict, traditional, but nurturing home. Culture, history, the arts, education, manners, and justice for all were stressed. I think the concept that” you can do anything that you set out to do” is very American and this has been firmly ingrained in my sensibilities. Adopting this attitude is essential when embarking on a new painting. There is a journey taken with each piece of artwork- each develops a life of its own during execution through completion. The art’s journey has stops and starts, highs and lows, order and disorder- just as life does. A positive mindset that one will succeed if “you put your mind to it” is valuable during the evolution, taming and eventual conquering of unique artwork.”
