About the Artist

Catherine Tait
Catherine Tait

Australian painter and sculptor Catherine Tait transforms everyday scenes into immersive pieces rife with longing and mystery. Tait makes use of a vast spectrum of mediums in both painting and sculpting. With a soft texture, almost feather-like portraits, and realistic sculptures employing the bronze, lost-wax casting, her style mends both traditional and modern approaches that bounce from impressionistic to realistic.

Often capturing the bustle of city life in her various travels, and the occasional rural scene, her works often employ blended lines and faded points of perspective that provide dynamism and dramatic style that contrasts light and shadows.

Her romanticism towards warm colors and darker tones creates depth and dimension, the darkness becomes a protagonist that conveys a personal message as the rest of her subjects do.  Tait skillfully delineates her subjects from the background and allows them to become the stage for the lives she captures. Lavish red and orange tones drape her canvas, creating an evocative effect. What becomes endearing is her choice of subjects varying from domestic animals, to regal men, and women that inspire tradition, and culture. Tait approaches art as an opportunity for learning and continues to propel her career forward with a fearless view of testing the waters.
