“Many trials and a hard life gave many layers of skin. It shows in my paintings.”

WAS THERE A PIVOTAL MOMENT WHEN YOU DECIDED TO FOLLOW YOUR PATH AS AN ARTIST?

“It happened overnight. In 2018, I wanted to buy myself a brush. I have never painted before. Today I am self-taught, without school. I got a feeling of portraying strong women, from vulnerability to strength. I portrayed myself, and my life, as how it should be. Not abuse, being exposed, oppressed, suffering in silence, hiding. I wanted to give passion, joy, dance, strength, gentle strength to someone who has been through the hard times in life.”

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK FOR US?

“The feeling is necessary. I paint mixed media, abstract and figurative, nude, erotic, very mixed together, like many spices in food, color or black and white, whatever the feeling of the moment shows. I want to offer a warm, tickling, strong passion with the help of the brush, fingers, paper, or what I have. I paint in acrylic and want structure and thick layers, like life itself, to be TOUCHED.”

WHAT DOES YOUR WORK AIM TO SAY?

“I want to bring out a nice, loving feeling that touches your soul and heart.”

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR WORK FITS WITHIN SOCIETY IN OUR PRESENT TIMES?

“It is highly relevant to the very highest degree today in our society. Of course, we talk out loud today more easily about what happens behind closed doors. But we also want to dare to dream about what we desire.”

WHEN LOOKING BACK, WHAT ARTWORKS COME TO MINDA THAT MOST RELATE TO YOUR LIFE STORY?

“I think of my strong women first, and they are involved in many ways. Also, the sea; the colors of the sea, are close to my heart, where I gather a lot of energy.”

WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?

“I love seeing a painting that shows clear contrasts, dark and light, in lovely harmony. We have many talented artists in Sweden; Ewa Helsén is very talented.”

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?

“I am self-taught, curious, and interested in techniques that create emotions in me. Today I look at the internet for inspiration about techniques and ideas; if it suits me, the inspiration is here and now, life: a walk, meetings with different people, dancing, work, travel, a sunchair. Yes, everything gives images in my mind, which create an idea. I love history and adventure; everything is close to me.”

WHAT VISUAL REFERENCES DO YOU DRAW UPON IN YOUR WORK?

“I like the free creation, the mix of abstract and contemporary, figuratively.”

ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS?

“Yes, participation in Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sweden, Italy, and more.”
