ArtTour International Artist of the Week
Francisco Cañas Salazar
Colombian artist Francisco Cañas Salazar creates powerful and vivid paintings that depict a rich emotional spectrum. His technique is one that focuses on abstraction, utilizing only limited figurative references within a maelstrom of colors and dynamic lines.
What are you currently focusing on?
“Well, I come from a cycle of abstract paintings that is what we have done in recent years, but now I have returned to paint landscapes that is what made me known in my country Colombia, at that time I painted in watercolor, but now I I am doing in oil, I am also working on the portrait in oil, at the moment I have several but none finished, all in process.”
Have you experienced any significant changes in your work this last year?
“Yes, I have noticed that my work is more refined and that my passage through the abstract and my paintings in recent years are better achieved and studied, now I paint more for myself, for my personal satisfaction and as I project my work for later.”
Where are you from, and how has that influenced your art?
“I am Colombian and I think that the influence in my art has been very customary, very much of my land, apart from my abstracts that have been a different variant of what I had done before in my career as an artist, but that has taken me to a level more international and that has helped me to merge both styles.”
