Syrian-Canadian artist Lina Faroussi was born and raised in Syria, then moved to Egypt to continue her Bachelor degree in Commerce, Lina’s passion for Art started at an early stage. And during the years living in Egypt then Dubai and currently in Toronto since 2008, she studied visual art and continued to work on her dream of becoming a visual artist and exhibits in numerous group and solo shows throughout the Middle East, Europe, Canada and USA.
Throughout the years, Faroussi’s artworks have been published many times in international art books and magazines, and she has been recognized for her originality and distinctive technic and received multiple art awards locally and internationally.
A spiritual vitality emerges within Faroussi’s art, creating universal connections spanning cultural divides as she discovers a passionate journey of the soul in the soft immediacy of her mark. Her painting combine aspects of both figuration and abstraction, it depicts human figures stretched, tinted, and textured into beautiful, otherworldly creatures, they are dream figures with real emotions.
“What I try to paint is a state of mind or an echo from the past”.
Faroussi builds her paintings in acrylic combined with a variety of mixed media (including fabric, Japanese paper, clay, sand and photo transfer) on canvas, or wood panel, adding sometimes elements of mixed media to add to the tactile sensation of her works.
