Randi Solin

“My sculptural work is a return to my roots. All my undergraduate work was glass sculpture created from my own hand-built plaster silica blow molds. Having my Solinglass work limited to the vessel form for so many years, I began to develop a series of purely sculptural pieces once again, allowing myself more freedom to experiment with form, size, technique, and personal expression. The approach for some of these pieces has been entirely different from my previous work, with more time spent in the process of creating an initial sculpture in clay, from which my final glass piece is created. Working first in clay gives me a window of creative time and a degree of control that hot glass doesn’t offer. The sculptural work also allows me more freedom to focus on my compositional coloration process; to paint with glass on a three dimensional canvas.” – Randi F. Solin

“Maglione” Glass, 9.5″x18.5″x5″

The magnificent works of American artist Randi F. Solin showcase a perfect harmony of color, shape, form, simultaneous contrast, and a very vivid imagination. They can be found on permanent collections of The White House, The United States Embassies in Algeria, Guinea, Praia, Mauritania and Benin, Africa, Guatemala, and Paraguay.

Randi Solin explores an unconventional form of art which involves bringing a vibrant, painterly effect on her geometric glass forms. Through a challenging and labor intensive process, Solin captures the fluidity of molten glass, preserving its elegant motion down to its cooled solidified form. Her style is unique and inventive, as she takes a creative and almost daring approach to each of her glass subjects. Her colors are mystical and dreamlike, fusing with the transparency of glass to create stunning visual effects. Solin’s unique style borrows from American studio glass art movement and traditional Venetian glass blowing techniques to come up with her approach. Her tools include cane, frit, glass powder and a painter’s palette. Her pieces are built upon meticulous layering of colors to create incredible one of a kind pieces.
