Wendy Cohen

Wendy Cohen is based in Sydney, Australia, creates abstract art with her focus on vibrant color, shapes, and geometric form. She pays homage to nature using elements like collage, color, and texture to create a sense of fluidity and depth experienced in natural settings to form her abstract creations. To create her lively pieces she relies on observation, intuition and imagination.

“I am focusing my practice on the shapes, lines, forms and colours of my surroundings.  I am particularly observing the craggy gavel ground when I take walks in nature.   This observation has brought an awareness of how abstracted awkward and imprecise the shapes, shadows, lines, colours and forms of the gravel ground are.   I have come to notice there is a world of wonderous shapes and forms in rocks, trees, the sidewalk, the garden and the gravel ground that continually inspire by my observation of the earth’s abstraction.   So how do I respond to this wonderful visual theatre that I am cognizant of?   Well it impacts my paintings in that I release all my inhibitions and approach my work impulsively without any logical thoughts.   As a result of my visual world I am creating exciting shapes and forms using interesting colours and mixed media to create surprising effects that keeps the viewer  guessing as one never knows where it going.”
