About the Artist

Zhu Yi

From The Republic of China, artist Zhu Yi is widely known for his exceptional realistic oil portraits of traditional Chinese culture and mesmerizing landscapes of the Chinese urban and cityscapes. Educated in the socialist realism style, he uses oils on canvas with delicate brushstrokes using shadow as the focal point for each subject.

Using large scale canvases, he seeks to reveal intricate narratives that combine images of his nation’s history with the symbolism of his personal beliefs. Combining Chinese techniques with Western realism Yi’s extensive studies in global art history and concepts has resulted in a multi-faceted career. His works often resemble sculptures with a regal like sense of depth and characterization.
