Cleo Mitchel is a self-taught, award-winning abstract artist who is making a mark in today’s art world. She is a talented artist who has a unique germ of pouring her heart and soul into any work she creates. In her paintings, Mitchel uses shapes, colors, forms, and gestural makes to produce its effect rather than attempting to describe a visual reality accurately.
Mitchel’s works are creative and phenomenal, exploring concepts of humanity and nature in innovative and compelling artistic ways. In her works, mother nature takes center stage. Mitchel cleverly captures clouds, rainbows, plants, and other natural elements by playing with and mixing colors. As per the artist, “Art is something that makes you breathe with a different kind of happiness,” Mitchel uses colors to capture joyful and peaceful moments and express a rich ambiance and happiness.
During her creative process, there’s no planning or calculation; Mitchel’s approach is to let creativity instinctively lead the way. As a result, spontaneous imagery evolves as the artist creates her works.
Most recently, Mitchel’s trailblazing efforts in the global art scene were acknowledged when she was among the 60 artists this year to receive the ATIM’s Top 60 Masters Awards by ArtTour International Magazine.

WAS THERE A PIVOTAL MOMENT WHEN YOU DECIDED TO FOLLOW YOUR PATH AS AN ARTIST?
I started painting four years ago. I was going through a difficult period in my life.
As a self-taught artist, I continue experimenting and learning while painting. The enjoyment I feel when I paint is amazing and has brought more meaning to my life.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK FOR US?
My work is bold, colorful, different, unusual and unrealistic. It will capture your imagination while looking at some of the images.
WHAT DOES YOUR WORK AIM TO SAY?
It is okay to be different and unusual. We live in a world that needs to accept different cultures.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR WORK FITS WITHIN SOCIETY IN OUR PRESENT TIME?
My work is unusual. However, some people will like it and others won’t. The bottom line, I enjoy what I do and no one can take that away from me. I plan to continue this amazing journey.
WHEN LOOKING BACK, WHAT ARTWORKS COME TO MIND THAT MOST RELATE TO YOUR LIFE STORY?
This is a hard question for me to answer. I enjoy looking at different artists’ work. One that comes to mind is Jonathan Green. I had the opportunity to meet him in person. His artwork is truly amazing.
WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?
I am so impressed by the artists that are featured in ATIM. I am so honored to be a part of this amazing group. I have a long list.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
I continue to experiment with different types of paints, brushes, canvas and wood panels. The location is important as well.

WHAT VISUAL REFERENCES DO YOU DRAW UPON IN YOUR WORK?
All of my paintings are spontaneous and nothing is planned in advance. It comes from the heart.
ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS?
I would really like to do a portrait of a male or female.
