Daniela Ament: The Inner Life Given Form

ArtTour International · 15th Anniversary Edition
Artists Defining a New Era
A landmark collector's edition celebrating fifteen years · 2011–2026

A rounded head lowers into the shelter of curving limbs. Bronze bands sweep inward and around one another, holding open spaces within a compact, folded form. Daniela Ament’s In Isolation gives an inward moment a physical presence. Before we search for a face or a story, the posture reaches us: a body seems to gather itself close.

Emotion held in the shape of a body

Created in 2020 as an edition of nine, In Isolation carries its feeling through the relationship between solid material and empty space. The warm brown patina varies across the surface, catching light on the broad curves and deepening in the recesses. A long, tapered form extends toward the viewer while the head remains lowered. The movement invites us closer, even as the figure appears absorbed in its own world.

That tension gives the sculpture its quiet intensity. We can read the folded gesture as withdrawal, protection or a need for stillness. The work leaves those possibilities open. Daniela makes room for the viewer to recognize something personal in a form that does not need to explain itself through detailed features.

A lifelong need to make

Daniela grew up in a family that loved many forms of art. As a child, she worked with painting, paper and knitting. In adulthood, she continued making with her hands, sewing puppets, pillows and imaginative costumes. Those early activities belong to a long creative thread, sustained by the pleasure and necessity of bringing an idea into material form.

At fifty, she began private classes in ceramic sculpture. Her work is now primarily in bronze, and her exhibitions have extended across Israel and internationally, including Paris, Florence, Ferrara, Vancouver, Miami, San Diego and New York City. Throughout that journey, her subjects have remained close to her own experience: feelings, thoughts and life as understood through the images of children and women.

Daniela describes that impulse directly: “My work is something that comes out of my inner me. I create because I must, my inner me must.” The words illuminate the urgency beneath the sculpture’s stillness. Making gives an interior experience somewhere to exist beyond the self.

In Isolation brings that necessity into a form we can encounter. Its folded curves offer no easy resolution, but they create a space for recognition. Daniela’s sculpture allows a private feeling to become a shared moment, held in bronze and completed, differently, by each person who pauses before it.
