The Color of a Shared Embrace
A mother holds a child close, their faces turned toward the viewer. Light scatters across an arm, while vivid blues, reds, greens, and violets move through the surrounding portrait. In Billy Moro-Wey’s Mother’s Pride, tenderness has a vivid physical presence. The embrace gives the painting its center; color carries its emotional atmosphere.
A New York-based visual artist, Billy works across oil painting, soft pastel, ceramics, portraiture, and muralism. His imagery brings surrealist sensibilities into contact with everyday life, allowing familiar experiences to open into imaginative scenes. Mother’s Pride, an oil painting on canvas, reflects his interest in a theme that can speak across individual lives.
A Familiar Moment, Richly Reimagined
The mother’s steady expression and the child’s close hold create an immediate sense of connection. Around them, color shifts beyond a strictly naturalistic palette. Violet and blue frame the mother’s face; warm light and softer tones bring the child forward. Fine lines and overlapping marks travel across the composition, giving the surrounding space its own movement.
These elements keep the eye moving between gesture, expression, and painted surface. The image can be approached as a portrait of two people and as a reflection on the intimacy of care. Its warmth comes through small details: the position of an arm, the closeness of the bodies, and the different expressions held within one embrace.
A Practice of Continuing Discovery
Billy holds a Master of Fine Arts degree, a postgraduate qualification in Architectural Ceramics from the University of Fine Arts in Poznań, Poland, and a Master of Art Education degree from the State University of New York at Albany. His work has received national and international awards and has been acquired by private collectors and institutions worldwide.
His continuing exploration of visual language moves between materials and ways of telling a story. In Mother’s Pride, that curiosity meets a deeply human subject. Billy gives an everyday relationship a radiant presence, inviting us to linger with the affection, individuality, and quiet strength of people held close.
